When you wake up on November 9, it is likely that we will know who our next U.S. president will be.  It may not be the person you were hoping would be elected.  If you don’t vote, you will have little room to complain (there’s still time!).  However, no matter how it comes out, I want to remind you of a few things:

  1. It is your responsibility to pray for your leaders, no matter who they are or how they govern. Paul told Timothy it was good and acceptable to pray for those in authority, starting with “kings”. The “king” (Caesar) in Paul’s day was Nero.  Enough said.
  2. God was on His throne when George Washington was president. He was on His throne when Adams and Jefferson and Roosevelt and Reagan occupied the Oval Office. He is on His throne now, during the Obama years and He will still be on His throne on Nov. 9th, no matter who gets elected.
  3. “The king’s heart is in the hand of the Lord…” (Prov. 21:1). That’s why we pray for leaders, and that’s why we can rest in the fact that God is still in control.

Elections are important, but God is in control, no matter what happens in the election.
