Hurricane Harvey was a life-changing event in the lives of countless Americans along the Gulf Coast of Texas and Louisiana. Politicians, Hollywood and Media personalities have been jockeying since it came ashore to tear each other down while making themselves look good.  It is all so self-serving while people suffer.  Our responsibility as believers is to stand ready to help. How?

First, pray. Patty Armitage has asked us to pray for the families in their church (Berean Baptist in Humble, TX). While you’re at it, remember the people from Good News Baptist in Katy, TX, as well. Texas governor Abbott has asked Americans to make this day a Day of Prayer for Texans affected by the hurricane. We can pray.

Second, give. We will be taking a special offering this morning to help the people in these churches who have lost homes or have been otherwise impacted by the storm. We can give.

Third, consider going to help. I don’t know yet how that will play out – it may be some time before anyone would be allowed in to help – but we are monitoring the situation to see if we can partner with other churches to put boots on the ground to offer our love in a practical, hands-on, on-the-scene way. We can go.
