It is beginning to be an all-too-familiar scene: kids ushered out of a school because someone began shooting inside. This time, the school is in Santa Fe, Texas, but the location could have been anywhere. Fingers will be pointed at guns, the NRA, school resource officers, mental health, illegal immigration, this or that politician and the list could go on. It’s time we got down to the root of the problem. We have deprived ourselves of our moral compass. As a culture, we don’t do right because we don’t know what right is anymore. We aren’t allowed to reference God’s Word, we aren’t allowed to use the word “sin” or describe certain actions as “wrong,” we aren’t allowed to teach truth as an objective reality, we aren’t allowed to insist that life is sacred – we have excluded God from the public square and the result is predictable…and deadly. This will go on…until we face the reality that we – American culture – made a wrong turn away from God. Our national motto is, “In God We Trust.” Maybe it’s time we lived it.
