Back in the early 1980s Frank Garlock wrote a little ditty for kids entitled, “A Good Example.” That’s an interesting concept for kids. We usually think of children observing the example of others, but Garlock saw the wisdom in encouraging them to be the example they should be at an early age. The children of Israel constituted an example as they exited Egypt. Unfortunately, Scripture records that it wasn’t a good example at all. They lusted, chased after idols, sank into immorality, rebelled and complained. The result was God’s judgment. Their experience was recorded as an example for us – a bad example. Instead of following that, let’s take Garlock’s advice to heart. “I will do right, walk in the light; someone is watching all the time. I will be true in everything I do, make my example glow and shine.”
