I’m reading a book courtesy of Gene Krull entitled, “Life Lessons from a Horse Whisperer.” Now, I’m not a horse guy, as most of you know. Horses see me coming and snicker. They know a novice when they see one. However, there is something very interesting about how a good trainer works with a horse. Bullying a horse can work to a certain degree, but a 1000 pound animal has some inherent advantages in that struggle. The good trainers earn the trust of the animal. They gently draw close to the rebellious, suspicious horse, gradually earning its trust. The horse that learns that he can trust the trainer, receives rewards and becomes a valued partner for life. Isn’t that how God works with us? If we will learn to trust our gentle, loving Heavenly Father, He will show us how we can become a valued partner for life. It’s a great alternative to self-centered rebellion – an attitude that leads to heartache and separation from our God. Which path are you on?
