It’s often considered impolite to get specific when leveling spiritual criticism. We’re supposed to beat around the bush in an effort to be civil. However, when it comes to false teaching, we have a responsibility to be sure there is no misunderstanding. Peter didn’t beat around the bush nor did Jude and Jesus certainly didn’t mince words when He named names in Rev. 2-3. Down the street from us there is a church that proclaims a false gospel and a different Christ, even though they are called “The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.” Another church in our area teaches that salvation is by grace through faith and baptism. Several around town teach that homosexuality is part of God’s design for human relationships. These are people who claim to speak for God – even for our Savior, yet they are false teachers. Part of our responsibility as believers, and my responsibility as a pastor is to warn the flock and expose false teaching. If God is going to someday “find us faithful,” it will, in part be related to speaking the truth about false teaching.
