People often speak of the “magic of Christmas”.  They have in mind the legends that surround Santa Claus and the goodwill that seems to be part of the holiday celebration, if only for a few days.  However, those things don’t capture the real meaning of the phrase.  The “magic of Christmas” was when God sent His Son to save people who hated Him from their sins.  The “magic of Christmas” was when a young virgin conceived and bore a son. The “magic of Christmas” was when a baby boy was born who was fully human and fully divine.  The “magic of Christmas” was when angels appeared to shepherds on a hillside announcing the royal birth.  The “magic of Christmas” was when a pagan Caesar unknowingly made all the arrangements to ensure that the baby would be born in Bethlehem, where Micah prophesied he would be born.  Those things are the “magic of Christmas” – a magic that could have only come from God.
