Publishing houses crank out books by the dozens every year that seek to define and teach leadership. Many of them are business-related, sales-driven, CEO-model books written by celebrities and people who have made a lot of money or accumulated a lot of power and fame in the world. Some of them, however, are patterned after the Bible’s model – the leadership of a servant. You might be thinking with the majority that servant leadership is fine for churches, but it doesn’t work in the real world. Well, our passage this morning is advice from a queen mother to her son, the king…and it’s patterned on the same model Jesus taught – the leadership of a servant. What is a leader? He or she is one who cares about the people and seeks to honor God with the stewardship of leadership. A leader is a servant.
